SHOTLIST
Mr. David, why do we need a new European Neighbourhood policy? Well because things have changed for good, hopefully, and dramatically these last months and therefore we start working about one year ago even before the changes have occurred in northern Africa in the shores of the Mediterranean. Until recently we were putting the question of stability on top of our priorities and now I think its time that we put the relations between the different peoples, the human right issues, the women right issues, the children issues, that the different freedoms on top of our agenda. And therefore we are very happy with the result that the Parliament has adopted this week. Despite this it seems that the Commission it is not really in favour of renewing the policy at this stage. Why do you think that is? Let me disagree because we have been working very closely with Vice President Ms. Ashton and Commissioner Stefan Füle. My disappointment is that we didn't manage to split completely the neighbourhood East with the neighbourhood South. Because my dream would have been to have a neighbourhood East with the countries that eventually may one day join the European Union in the late future and of course it is totally different issue when we talk about the South, which are really our neighbours, but on the other shore of the Mediterranean. And this is the only thing that I really think that it was an opposition between us and the Commission. Because I think the Commission also they realise the world has changed and how important it is to have a new neighbourhood policy.
