Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, gave a cautiously optimistic assessment of recent developments towards financial stability in Europe when hen appeared before the Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee this week. During the regular 'monetary dialogue' session, he told MEPs that they will play an increasingly important role in providing democratic legitimacy as the EU moves inevitably further down the road to ever closer economic and political union.
