European Parliament Backs Asbestos Crackdown

European Parliament Backs Asbestos Crackdown
The World Health Organisation says more than a 100,000 people die each year from asbestos-related diseases, thousands of them in Europe. The European Union banned asbestos in 2005 but it remains in many buildings posing a threat for residents as well as workers involved in construction or demolition. A European Parliament committee this week approved a report calling for a crackdown on asbestos remaining in buildings, and to raise awareness of the effort. The report will make asbestos screening and registration mandatory and start action plans for asbestos removal across Europe in public buildings by 2028. Available material includes an edited package.
