EPP Group pushes for clearer rules for Schengen suspensions

Millions of European citizens benefit every day from the Schengen agreement, an EU accord that enables travellers to cross most internal borders in the EU without the need for passport checks. However, recently some of the larger and more influential EU Member States have pushed for greater powers to reimpose border checks, principally to deal with the consequences of illegal immigration. This week the European Parliament's justice, home affairs and civil liberties committee has supported a plan by the European Commission to clarify how and when Member States can take action in this respect.
